about
This is the second track from the semi-maybe-okay-yeah-we-guess reboot of Mambo-X. Unfortunately, Erin had a conflict and couldn't sing on it. But that makes it totally noteworthy because it marks Seth's solo singing debut. Brace yourself.
This song, like "The Greatest Goodbye," was provoked by anxieties concerning Donald Trump. But it ended being an exploration of a sort of surreal vision -- funny, dreamy, crazy -- with a sound somewhere between Ipanema and Spanish Harlem. Or that's how we heard it.
lyrics
Trump’s Library
Remember the day, so unprovable,
in every way, delusional
When we went looking for Trump’s library
It doesn’t exist, you insisted
It’s like El Dorado, I resisted,
Rising out of a mangrove swamp
A pleasure dome of dumb
Painted gold and platinum
A marble fountain of dad & daughter
Pumping lies Instead of water,
On the wall, Barry’s bogus birth certificate
And Mel’s frowning face in triplicate
And only one book, which he didn’t write.
There are no letters, that’s a fail,
Cause he’d never leave a paper trail.
But there’s a display of MAGA hats
A pleasure dome of dumb
Painted gold and platinum
A marble fountain of dad & daughter
Pumping lies Instead of water,
You said, Where’s the exit?
I said, yeah this is a cesspit
Another of my great bad ideas.
No one will believe it
Who could ever conceive it?
And we swore to never mention it again.
A pleasure dome of dumb
Painted gold and platinum
A marble fountain of dad & daughter
Pumping lies Instead of water

Powered by the twirling stage theatrics of singer Erin O'Hara and the interweaving guitars of Seth Kaufman and Mitch Rosen,
alterna-dance band Mambo-X was one of Albany NY's most popular acts.
After gigging extensively on the East Coast and releasing a single, a flexi-disc and the EP Machines of Eden, the band recorded Whirled in 1988 with producer Mitch Easter and then promptly imploded.
