about

It's taken thirty-one years (and the biggest federal government failure in American history), but Mambo-X has a new song. "The Greatest Goodbye" was written two weeks before the 2020 election by Seth Kaufman, in a moment of hope and fury. He emailed the basic tracks to Mitch Rosen in Chapel Hill. Three days later, they realized they had a Mambo-worthy song and reached out to Erin O'Hara on the West Coast. Four days later, it was time to say hello to "The Greatest Goodbye."

lyrics

This is the greatest
The greatest
The greatest goodbye

We’re coming to the end
Let’s not break or bend
Gotta tear the whole thing down
— can’t do this shit again
Can’t just sit and pray
And wish it all way
Let's work for weeks and not see this freak
One more fucking day.

Now there’s hope, not fear.
Kids are bringing up the rear
They're saying something, singing loud,
A cheer we want to hear

This is the greatest
The greatest
The greatest goodbye

Dog whistle Don
Was a king con
Can’t protects us, did infect us
Got to get him gone.
Still so much to do
make equality true,
fix the sea and economy
Just to name a few
This is the greatest

This is the greatest
The greatest
The greatest goodbye

We would be remiss
Not to feel the bliss
of the date we vote out hate
and escape this abyss.
Now there’s hope, not fear.
We're bringing up the rear
Saying something, singing loud,
The cheer we want to hear

This is the greatest
The greatest
The greatest goodbye
This is the greatest
The greatest
The greatest goodbye

about

Mambo-X Albany, New York

Powered by the twirling stage theatrics of singer Erin O'Hara and the interweaving guitars of Seth Kaufman and Mitch Rosen, alterna-dance band Mambo-X was one of Albany NY's most popular acts.

After gigging extensively on the East Coast and releasing a single, a flexi-disc and the EP Machines of Eden, the band recorded Whirled in 1988 with producer Mitch Easter and then promptly imploded.
